Air Fuel Ratio

mA petrol engine needs 14 parts of air to bum one
part of fuel {by weight) l0 form a rich mixture for
maximum power. compared to the chemically correct
or stoichiometric ratio Of 14 .7:1 maintained in three
way catalyst engines. During DBFI-throttle running.
ordinary engines will run on weak mixtures with
air/fuel ratio In the 15-15:1 region. but lean-burn
engines will run on still weaker mixtures with air/fuel
ratios in the 18-20:1 range.
